Welcome to George R. White Law Library!
As the heart and intellectual soul of the law school, we hope you will find the library a welcoming place for the many hours of study that the law demands. The library is staffed with four librarians, all of whom hold graduate degrees in law and library science, and are fully engaged in faculty governance of the law school. We have additional, excellent staff ready to assist you with your information and technology needs. In addition, you will notice that law students staff the information desk, and they too are an excellent resource to their classmates.
At its core, the library is a service and resource center. Librarians and staff are there to provide School of Law students and faculty with access to materials, instruction on research, assistance with term papers and other course assignments. The library is also open limited hours to members of the bench and bar.
The library is a thoroughly modern building with many spacious tables, intimate alcoves, group study rooms and the Rick Porter Conference Room available for reservation. The design is timeless, and has been referred to as, “a northwestern commentary on Scandinavian design.” The library flows seamlessly with the rest of the building, from classroom to office space.
The collection consists of a thoroughly modern blend of traditional print and cutting edge electronic resources. Many of those electronic resources are available 24/7 from any location, with use of your CU ID and Password. In addition to a broad array of traditional legal resources in the open stacks, you will find a robust collection of study guides, student oriented treatises on core legal subjects, writing books, law practice aids, and general and legal reference materials. Please see a librarian for more details about our reserve and reference collections. If you are just looking for a place to relax, you will find a collection of current events and popular culture magazines, along with local artwork, in the Idaho Reading Room, adjacent to the copier room on the first floor.
On behalf of the library faculty and staff, we are pleased to welcome you to the George R. White Law Library.
