Concordia Law Leaders in Action Awards Honors Outstanding Idahoans

Retired Chief Justice Jones & Educator Cindy Wilson Recognized at 5th Annual Event

More than 140 people gathered in downtown Boise on March 1, 2017 to honor two community leaders at Concordia University School of Law’s 5th Annual Leaders in Action Awards.

Each year, the Leaders in Action Awards recognizes a law and education leader who have made significant contributions to making Idaho a better state.

This year’s awards were presented to retired Idaho Supreme Court Chief Justice Jim Jones and Capital High School teacher Cindy Wilson. The awards were presented by Concordia University President Charles Schlimpert, School of Law Dean Elena Langan and VP of Community Engagement Cathy Silak.

“Community members joined together to celebrate the award recipients at the stunning JUMP venue.  It was an uplifting evening that inspired us to do more to transform our communities for the better,” said Cathy Silak, Concordia’s vice president of community engagement.

During the event, Justice Jones drew applause when he said, “It is incumbent on Idahoans of all political stripes to stand up and speak out for the dignity and rights of all of our citizens.”

The Honorable Jim Jones retired as Idaho Supreme Court Chief Justice after more than 40 years practicing law, serving in the military, and contributing significant volunteer, leadership and advisory roles for civic and nonprofit organizations in Idaho and across the region.

During the course of Cindy Wilson’s 30-year teaching career, she has contributed to students’ global connectedness, civic engagement and cultural understanding. She was recently appointed by Idaho’s Gov. Otter to serve a six-year term on the Idaho Board of Correction.
